While looking up different crisis cases on brands I came across one I found very interesting. It has to do with Starbucks. Starbucks introduced the “Blonde Drink” to the menu. In adding this the ads were extremely flirty and held suggestive language within them as well. Some examples while people were ordering were, “Blondes have more fun,” and “Tall, blonde, and gorgeous.”
Many people didn't like the way people were ordering this drink and how suggestive the ads turned out to be. After much backlash the Starbucks team came out with a new ad to change the outlook on the drinks appearance. They also came out with an apology for being insensitive to some people.
They posted many different ads to change the outlook. The Starbucks team should have realized they shouldnt have made this drink sexual and flirty. Why did they think many would like walking up and ordering a “Tall and Blonde” drink.
Personally I think Starbucks did all they could do after the fact. They messed up but there was nothing much they could do to fix the little issue. Many people are sensitive to some things and they didn't think thoroughly while promoting the drink.
I would most likely do the same thing in response. If I let that happen The best I could do is apologize and try and change the outlook on the drink until the scandal dies down some.
